Every piece of wood we deliver is kiln-dried to a moisture content below 15% — the standard for premium burn quality. Moisture-tested for consistency. Sustainably harvested from New England forests. The result is up to 35% more energy output per log than seasoned firewood, far less smoke, and minimal creosote buildup in your chimney. Kiln-drying also eliminates the invasive species and pests that often travel with untreated firewood. Your home stays protected.

In 2008, our founder Grant was frustrated with local firewood. Seasoned and green wood that smoked more than it burned. Smoky houses. Watery eyes. Constant poking just to keep a fire going. He set out to find something better.

His search led him to the forests of Vermont, where a small sawmill operator was kiln-drying local hardwoods to a low moisture content for ski resorts, restaurants, and fine homes across the state. Grant brought some home to try. The wood was easy to start, burned steady and bright, and lived up to everything firewood was supposed to be. It was a eureka moment. Grant partnered with the sawmill operator to bring this quality to homeowners across New England, and Vermont Good Wood was born.
